About the auction
After months of caring for their animals, Texas 4-H and FFA youth exhibitors bring their animals to the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo in February to be exhibited and judged. Livestock projects teach our youth important lessons in responsibility, problem-solving, decision making, leadership, communication, hard work and dedication.
Exhibitors whose animals are judged as the top in their classes are eligible to sell their projects through a live auction. Money bid on the animal project is paid to the exhibitor so that he/she may continue their show experiences and educational endeavors. These exhibitors have spent countless hours caring for these animals, preparing them for judging and the opportunity to sell them in one of the most prestigious Junior Livestock Auctions in the nation. Less than 10% of animals exhibited in the Junior Livestock Show qualify for the Junior Livestock Auction.
